La serie è stata creata e scritta da Aaron Sorkin, già autore di Sports Night e The West Wing. Originariamente la serie si sarebbe dovuta intitolare Studio 7 on the Sunset Strip. La serie ha vinto nel 2006 il Broadcasting and Cable pool come miglior nuovo programma mentre nel 2007 gli è stato consegnato il Banff World Television Festival per l'episodio pilota e l'Emmy per l'interpretazione come guest star drama di John Goodman.
